Zickenbach Valley marsh
The Zickenbach Valley wetlands have been declared a Natura 2000 site because of the rare and endangered bird species they are home to. The area concerned is the 42-hectare Niedermoor, the largest marsh in Pannonia.
Cores from test boreholes drilled in the marsh have shown that it is about 13 m deep, and at least 10,000 years old. Pollen analyses indicate that the area around Rohr was already inhabited in the early Stone Age, and was resettled in around 5,000 BC.
